Description: A very nice Class IV spread shows on the bison’s eyelid.
Die Markers: Obverse: A series of die scratches between the Indian’s short feather and the rim. Reverse: Small die gouge (dot) below the center of the M in AMERICA. Wavy die gouge behind the bison’s left front leg. An S-shaped die gouge and a long die scratch below the bison’s tail.

1917 5¢ WDDR-001 “Best Of” Variety
Description: A strong Class IV spread to the NW shows on EPU, the VE of FIVE, the CE of CENT, the Buffalo’s head, hair details, and legs, especially the back edge of the left rear leg, and the base of the mound.

Description: A spread towards the center shows on EPU and USA.
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Die clash marks can be found under the chin. Obverse Stage B: NW/SE die crack through the hair at the front of the head extends NW to the rim. Die crack across the top feather. Heavy feeder finger damage near the rim around the top of the head. Die gouge below the second and third feathers. Reverse Stage A: None noted. Reverse Stage B: Die deterioration accentuates the clash remnants through EPU. Large die flow lines right of the S in CENTS.

Description: A very nice Class IV spread towards the northwest shows on EPU and slightly on the underside of the 2nd A in AMERICA. Doubling also shows on the bison’s underside.
