1936 10¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong spread to the NNE shows on the date, designer's initials, IGWT, and the base of the bust.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A die gouge can be found to the right of the upper 6 in the date.  Horizontal die scratch near the bottom of the neck north of the 19 in the date.  Short die scratch ENE from the back point of the bust.  Obverse Stage B:  The die scratch from the back point of the bust has been abraded away.  Reverse Stage A:  A die scratch runs WSW from the bottom of the E in STATES.  Reverse Stage B:  Same as Stage A.

1936 10¢ WDDO-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong CW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on the date, IGWT, and the designer’s initials.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge (dot) can be found NNE of the designer’s initials.  A die scratch runs parallel to the rim throughout the obverse.  Reverse:  None significant.

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on the date, the designer’s initials, and slightly on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs WNW from the upper front tip of the wing.  A die crack can be found on the right side of the base of the bust.  Reverse:  Many die scratches run through EPU.

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the date, the designer’s initials, and slightly on the Y in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found below the R in TRUST.  A short, horizontal die gouge can be found at the back of the eye.  A die crack runs from the rim to the left of the T in LIBERTY into the wing on the bonnet.  Reverse:  None significant.

Description:  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the date and the designer’s initials.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs from the rim to the left of the T in LIBERTY into the wing on the bonnet.  A die crack runs NE from the rim at about 7:00 into the base of the bust.  Reverse:  None noted.

Description:  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the date and the designer’s initials.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Parallel SW/NE die scratches can be found to the left of, and above the designer’s initials.  Die scratches run SW from the B in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A small die gouge can be found to the left of the E in UNITED.  Parallel die scratches run between the lower left branch and the bottom of the fasces.

Description:  A spread to the north shows on the date, the designer’s initials, and IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A nearly horizontal die scratch can be found to the left of the top of the wing.  A strong die crack runs from the rim to the left of the T in LIBERTY into the wing on the bonnet.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found inside the C in AMERICA.  A small die gouge can be found between the 2nd A in AMERICA and the right star.
