1947 10¢ WDDO-001

Description:  Extra thickness shows best on the L of LIBERTY.  A spread toward the center shows on IGWT, the designer's initials, and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Die scratches on underside of nose.  Series of NNE/SSW on the nose west of the eye.  Die scratch west between the lower lip and the chin.  Obverse Stage B: Stage A scratches are gone.  Die scratch from the horizontal bar of the 4, NE to the horizontal bar of the seven.  Wavy E/W die scratch above the frontal hair in the field.  Reverse Stage A: Die scratches running NE/SW through the top and bottom openings and close to the center of the N in UNUM.  Die scratch SW from the S in PLURIBUS through the second U.  NE/SW die scratch inside the lower opening of the second U of UNUM.  Series of die scratches NW from the upper oak leaves to the flame.  Reverse Stage B: Most stage A markers are gone.  The key remaining markers are weaker die scratches at the N and second U in UNUM.  Small die gouge (dot) on the underside of the center bar of the N of ONE, closer to the top of the opening.

1947 10¢ WDDO-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  Extra thickness shows best on the LIB of LIBERTY.  Doubling and tripling toward the center show on IGWT, LIB of LIBERTY, the lips, below the nose and the date.  The designer's initials show at least quintupling on the lower J.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Strong NNE/SSW die scratch at the bridge of the nose combined with a series of smaller scratches.  Small SSW die scratches from the eye.  SSW die scratches from the lower nose and lip area.  NE/SW die scratches between the RT of LIBERTY and the brow.  Reverse:  NW/SE die scratch above the lower left hand oak leaf.

1947 10¢ WDDR-001

Description:  Extra thickness shows on the upper letters of USA and the lower letters of ONE DIME with the strongest spread being at the top of the reverse.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  A die gouge protrudes from the rim NE of the 2nd S in STATES.

Description:  A very close CW spread shows on DIME from a pivot at 11:00.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Long N/S die scratch in the field behind the head.  N/S die scratches in the field between the nose and the T of LIBERTY.  Reverse:  WNW/ESE die scratches centered in side the D of DIME.  Die scratch east from the right upper area of the C and second A in AMERICA.
