1964 50¢ Pr WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong CCW spread from a pivot at about 9:00 shows on IGWT, LIBERTY, the date, the designer’s initials, and the hair on the upper part of the head.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short vertical die gouge can be found at the rim to the left of the R in LIBERTY.  A short diagonal die scratch can be found to the right of the top of the Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Flared G in FG.  Slight doubling to USA and the circle of stars is from the doubled master die listed as WMDR-001.

1964 50¢ WDDO-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on IGWT, the date, the designer’s initials, and the TY in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found to the left of the lower T in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Flared G in FG.  Slight doubling to USA and the circle of stars is from the doubled master die listed as WMDR-001.

Description:  A strong Class II spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY, the upper hair details, and IN.  A lesser spread shows on GOD WE TRUST and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Accented Hair.  A small die gouge (dot) can be found south of the left side of the D in GOD.  A small die gouge (dot) can be found on the neck midway between the ear and the designer’s initials.  Reverse:  Straight G in FG.

Comments:  This variety was previously listed as WDDO-032.  It was reassigned a new number in order to fill the large number of “holes” in the listings created by the discovery of three obverse doubled working hubs.

Description:  Strong Class II quadrupling spread towards the center shows on USA, HALF DOLLAR, the dots, the stars in the circle, and the stars above EPU.  Doubling shows on the designer’s initials and on the outer arrows.  The top olive leave point is tripled.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Accented Hair Variety.  Master die doubling from WMDO-002 shows on the obverse.  Reverse:  Straight G in FG.  A short die gouge extends from the rim above the first A in AMERICA.

Comments:  This variety was originally listed as WDDR-017 but was reassigned due to the large number of “holes” that were created in the listings when the reverse doubled master dies were recognized.
