1922-D $1 WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong spread to the north shows on the designer’s initials, the bottom edge of the bust, the date, the hair on the lower back of the head, and TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found to the left of the upper lip.  Die scratches run WNW from the bottom front of the bust.  WSW/ENE die scratches can be found above the 22 in the date.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1922-D $1 WDDR-001.  Light doubling shows on the olive leaves and branches, the bottom of the DOLL in DOLLAR, the back leg feathers, the rays to the left of the legs, and the rays above and below ONE.  A heavy die gouge runs from the first S in STATES through the T to the A.  A light die scratch runs from below the mintmark to the feathers.
