1943-S 25¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  An extremely strong CW spread shows on IGWT, the date, the nose, the designer’s initials, the lower queue, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs east across the upper forehead and into the hair.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  A N/S die scratch can be found in the field to the left of the lips and chin.  Reverse:  None noted.

1943-S 25¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A very close CCW spread from a pivot at about 8:00 shows on the date, the designer’s initials, the bottom of the ribbon, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two parallel die scratches curve NE from the bottom right side of the B in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust and the lower queue extending to the top of the one in the date.  An E/W die crack runs through the hair at the top of the head.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1943-S 25¢ WDDR-001.  Extremely strong Class VI extra thickness shows on QUARTER DOLLAR, USA, EPU, the wreath, the outer edges of both wings, and the top of the eagle’s head.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing from the N in UNITED.  A die crack runs from the S in PLURIBUS down the eagle’s left wing.

1943-S 25¢ WDDO-003

Description:  A very close CW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on LIBERTY and very slightly on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs south from the top left of the first T in TRUST.  A die scratch runs south from the bottom of the U in TRUST.  Two long parallel die scratches run SSW/NNE in the field above IGWT.  Several die scratches run SW/NE to the right of the queue.  Reverse:  None significant.

1943-S 25¢ WDDO-004

Description:  A very close CCW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs NE from the tip of the nose.  A die crack runs east through the upper forehead into the hair.  A nearly horizontal die crack runs through the hair just above the forehead.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing with a die chip on the wing below the U of UNITED.  A die crack runs from the left side of the Q in QUARTER to the tip of the eagle’s right wing.

1943-S 25¢ WDDO-005          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 1:00 shows on IGWT and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs SW from the lower right of the L in LIBERTY.  Three die scratches extend from the rim between the B and E in LIBERTY.  Numerous NW/SE die scratches run through the Y in LIBERTY.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A short die gouge ca be found to the west of the eagle’s lower neck.

Description:  A close CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on IGWT, the date, the lower ribbon, and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A short die scratch runs ESE from the upper second L in DOLLAR.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

Description:  A CCW spread shows on LIBERTY, the date, the lower ribbon, the designer’s initials, and slightly on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs across the base of the bust and lower queue extending WNW into the field.  A die crack runs east across the upper forehead and into the hair.  Reverse:  A heavy die crack runs through the upper RIC in AMERICA.

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY increasing from left to right.  Extra thickness shows slightly on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs across the base of the bust and the lower queue.  Reverse:  Feeder finger abrasions run through the upper TE in STATES.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

Description:  A close spread towards the center shows on the date and the bottom of the ribbon.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two die scratches run SW from the top left of the B in LIBERTY.  Numerous N/S die scratches can be found in the field to the left of the neck.  Reverse:  Several die scratches run from the eagle’s right wing tip to the Q in QUARTER.

Description: A CCW spread from a pivot at about 8:00 shows on IGWT, the date, and the bottom of the ribbon. A second close spread towards the center on IGWT.

Die Markers: Obverse: Die crack across the base of the bust. Strong NE/SW die scratch between the E in WE and the throat. Strong N/S die scratch through the W in WE and the last T in TRUST. N/S die scratches left of IN. Strong die scratch extends NE from the N in IN. N/S die scratch in the field runs through the nose. N/S die scratches behind the head. NE/SW die scratches over the ponytail. E/W die scratch through the LI in LIBERTY. E/W die scratch on the shoulder. Reverse: Die cracks along both wings. E/W die cracks with chipping on the eagle's head.
