1945 25¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A Class I CCW spread shows on IGWT, LIBERTY, the lower queue, the designer’s initials, and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs WSW/ENE across the upper forehead.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.  Die gouges can be found between the D in UNITED and the first S in STATES.

1945 25¢ WDDO-002          “Best Of” Variety

Description: A Class I CW spread shows on IGWT, LIBERTY, the lower queue, the designer’s initials, and the date.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A die scratch runs NE from the lower right E in WE. A die scratch runs NW from the top of the 9 in the date. Obverse Stage B: Stage A markers weak but still present. Die scratch extends SE from the hair below the LIB in LIBERTY. Reverse Stage A: A die scratch connects the lower second S in STATES to the lower O in OF. A die scratch runs SE from the lower right D in UNITED. Reverse Stage B: Die scratch from D abraded away. Other markers weak but still present. Die cracks along both wings. Die crack along the eagle's left wing extends north through the first A in AMERICA and the F in OF. Feeder finger damage through OF and the wing. Die pitting right of the D in UNITED in place of the Stage A die scratch.

1945 25¢ WDDO-003

Description:  A CW spread from a pivot at about 1:00 shows on IGWT, the LIBE in LIBERTY, the lower ribbon, the designer’s initials, and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the L in LIBERTY.  A die gouge can be found north of the G in GOD.  Reverse:  A die gouge connects the centers of the Q and the U in QUARTER.

Description:  Extra thickness spread towards the center shows on IGWT, LIBERTY, the lower ribbon, the designer’s initials, and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  A die crack runs E/W through the hair just above the forehead and at the top of the head.  Reverse:  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

Description:  A CCW spread from a pivot at about 2:00 shows on IGWT, the date, and the bottom of the ribbon.

Die Markers: Obverse: A small die gouge can be found to the right of the D in GOD. Many die scratches left of the L in LIBERTY. Die scratch extends SE from the B in LIBERTY. Parallel die scratches run west from the lower T in LIBERTY. Reverse: The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die files as 1945 25¢ WDDR-003. A spread towards the center shows on QUARTER DOLLAR and the branches. A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing. A die crack runs from the S in PLURIBUS to the upper left wing. E/W die crack across the branches at the knot. Circular die scratches run throughout the eagle.

Description:  A very close CW spread from a pivot at 2:00 shows on IN and the TR of TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch extends ESE from the top right side of the B in LIBERTY.  A small die gouge can be found just to the right of the lower Y in LIBERTY.  A small die gouge can be found SW of the bottom of the ribbon.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die files as 1945 25¢ WDDR-002.  A spread towards the center shows on the letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the letters of QUARTER DOLLAR, and the ends of the branches.  A small die gouge touches the lower left side of the I in UNITED.  A short die scratch runs northeast from the center of the right side of the vertical bar of the D in UNITED.  A curving die scratch can be found above the left branch end.
