1947 25¢ WDDO-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A CCW spread shows on LIBERTY, the date, the bottom of the ribbon, the designer’s initials, and slightly on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs SW/NE below the LI of LIBERTY.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  A die gouge runs from the E to the R in AMERICA.  A die scratch runs north from the O in OF.  A die crack runs down the eagle’s right wing.

1947 25¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on the date, the bottom of the ribbon, the designer’s initials, and slightly on IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs NE from the top right of the N of IN.  A die scratch runs NW from the top of the W in WE.  A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE to the right of the upper queue.  Reverse:  A short die gouge runs north from the bottom right of the 1st R in QUARTER.  Vertical die scratches can be found to the left of the lower T of in QUARTER.  A short vertical die scratch can be found to the left of the bottom of the E in QUARTER.

1947 25¢ WDDR-001

Description: Light extra thickness with a close spread towards the center shows on USA and EPU.

Die Markers: Obverse: E/W die crack across the top of the head. Die gouge above the N in IN. Die gouge left of the T in LIBERTY. Die gouge right of the bow. Reverse: Die crack along the eagle's right wing, extending towards the Q in QUARTER. Die crack along the top of the eagle's left wing. Feeder finger scrapes through the first S in STATES, the MER in AMERICA, and the eagle's left wing. Strong but short N/S die scratch on the eagle's left wing. Two die gouges between the P and L in PLURIBUS. Multiple die gouges below the tail feathers.
