1923 $1 WDDO-001

Description:  Doubling shows on the date, TRUST, and the bottom hair braid.  Slight doubling shows on the forehead and the designer’s initials.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs along the front of the base of the bust.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1923 $1 WDDR-004.  A close spread shows on the olive leaves and on the rays below ONE.  None noted.

1923 $1 WDDR-001          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A strong spread to the east shows on the olive branch and leaves, the rays running through the olive branch and leaves, the rays to the left of the lower back of the eagle, the tail feathers to the left of the eagle’s talon, and DOLLAR.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs along the base of the bust.  Reverse:  Two parallel die scratches run NW/SE between the two rays directly below the right side of the M in UNUM.

Description:  A close spread shows on the olive branch and leaves.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die crack runs along the front of the base of the bust.  Reverse:  None significant.

Description:  A close spread to the shows on the olive branch and leaves, the rays running through the olive branch and leaves, the rays to the left of the lower back of the eagle, and the tail feathers to the left of the eagle’s talons.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die gouge extends west from the throat NE of the top of the E in WE.  Die scratches run SW/NE above the ST in TRUST.  Reverse:  A die scratch can be found under the horizontal bar of the A in PEACE.
