2007-P $1 GW WUFO-001          Elongated Third Ray

Description:  Moving CW on Miss Liberty’s tiara the third ray is long enough to touch Miss Liberty’s right arm.  On the normal reverse design the third ray is much shorter leaving a significant gap between the tip of the ray and the right arm.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  None significant.

Submitted By:  Roger Beckner

Cross References:  None known

Comments:  It has been suggested that the extra length of the third ray is from a die gouge.  Close examination of the elongated third ray does not show any gouging to extend the ray.  I would have to strongly disagree with the die gouge theory.  Was it a deliberate manipulation of the design?  We probably will never know, but it certainly is an interesting variety.
