This coin is also a doubled die exhibiting an extra
eyelid to the SE that is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1951-D 1¢
WDDO-002. Stage A: A mostly E-W oriented die scratch runs between the
central 5 and into 1 in the date. Light, E-W oriented die scratches show to the
left of the mint mark and through the left side of the date. Similar E-W
oriented die scratches show below the chin. Light die scratches run east from
the front of Lincoln’s nose, eyebrow and forehead. Light, SW-NE oriented die
scratches run through the TRU in TRUST. A strong die gouge shows at the rim NE
of the R in TRUST.
Stage B: All
Stage A die markers except for the doubled eye are worn away. The doubled
eyelid is much less visible in this die stage and is nearly worn away. A light
die clash shows in front of the neck. A die crack curves NW above the back of
the eyebrow. A faded series of SW-NE oriented die scratches show behind most of
Lincoln’s lower bust. Light, SW-NE oriented die scratches show on the neck
below the ear.
Stage C: All
previous die stage markers are extremely weak or worn away except for the die
crack NW of the eyebrow, which now joins a strong E-W oriented die crack running
through the central forehead. The doubled eyelid is invisible in
this die stage. A faded die gouge shows to the right of the Y in LIBERTY. Reverse:Stage A:
Scattered concentric die scratches show below the UM in UNUM. A light die
scratch curves SE from the central crossbar of the E in ONE. Light, concentric
die scratches show to the SE of OF.
Stage B:
Numerous NW-SE die scratches show throughout many areas of the reverse. A long,
NW-SE oriented die scratch runs between and below the I and B in PLURIBUS. A
series of die gouges show right of the E in UNITED. Scattered die gouges show in
the field below the RIC in AMERICA. More die gouges show between the N and T in
CENT.
Stage C: A
pair of die gouges show below and between the IC in AMERICA. A die gouge shows
along the lower left edge of the right wheat stalk, SE of the last S in STATES.
A series of NW-SW oriented die scratches run through the upper T in CENT.

Concentric die scratches show in front of Lincoln’s mouth. Numerous, SSW-NNE
oriented die scratches run through the letters ERTY in LIBERTY. Reverse: Numerous, mostly NNW-SSE oriented die scratches show
throughout much of the reverse. Of note are a strong die scratch connecting the
lower right edge of the C in CENT with the T in UNITED and a lighter die
scratch connecting the back of the C in CENT with the N in UNITED. A
distinctive die chip shows on the lower T in CENT. A light die scratch runs SSE
from the lower T in CENT.

Comments: The
original Stage B of this die was discovered to be a different die by mint mark
placement. It has been relisted as
WRPM-082. Also of note, the original WRPM-023 listing also previously showed the

Lincoln Cents as a cross reference.
This die (which has since been deleted by CONECA) was shown to have a
possible RPM north, but did not have the split serifs seen here, and has been

Die Markers: Obverse: Light, N-S oriented die scratches run from the front of
Lincoln’s bust toward the 1 and 9 in the date. A light die scratch runs between
the upper and lower tails of the 9 in the date. Light die scratches run south
from the underside of Lincoln’s chin. A series of light die scratches run south
between and below the TY in LIBERTY. Light die scratches run NNW from the back
of Lincoln’s lower bust. Light N-S oriented die scratches connect the back of
Lincoln’s lower hair and upper shoulder. Reverse: Due to the circulation wear
on this coin, no definitive reverse die markers could be found.

Stage B: The

Stage B: A
strong die scratch runs SW from the tail of the 9 in the date onto the lower
front of the bust. Numerous other faded die scratches run from the 9 in the
date towards the front of the bust. Faded, SW-NE oriented die scratches show in
the field between the chin and the date. Reverse:Stage A: A
strong die scratch runs SE from the middle crossbar of the E in ONE. A raised
area of die damage shows in front of the opening of the C in AMERICA. A small
die gouge (dot) shows to the NE of the last S in STATES.
Stage B: The
die damage in front of the opening of the C in AMERICA from State A is weakly
visible, but the area is now overlaid by numerous fresh die scratches. The die
dot NE of the last S in STATES is weakly visible. Numerous die scratches run in
multiple directions throughout the central reverse.

the lathe line at the rim between GOD and WE is visible from previous die
stages. Light die scratches run NE from the top of the date. Numerous die
scratches run NE from the bridge of the nose. NW-SE oriented die scratches show
at the back of the hair below GOD.
Stage D: The
Stage C markers are still visible. A die
gouge is present touching the left side of 5 in the date. Several curving die cracks are present on the
forehead and behind Lincoln’s eye. Reverse: Stage A (First Reverse): Two mostly N-S oriented die scratches runs along
