1960 1¢ Pr WDDO-001          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A Large Date was hubbed well centered over a Small Date.  A spread to the SW shows on the BERTY of LIBERTY.  Some doubling also shows on the letters of IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die gouge runs SW from the rim to the left of the I of IN.  Die scratches run ENE from the hair above the ear into the forehead.  Reverse:  A vertical die scratch can be found in the upper 10th Memorial bay.

Comments:  As a proof variety it is highly unlikely that more than 3,000 specimens of this variety exist, as that is the average die life for a Lincoln cent proof die.

1960 1¢ Pr WDDO-002         "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A Small Date was hubbed over a Large Date.  The Small Date is well centered over the Large Date.  A strong spread to the west shows on the BER of LIBERTY.  Some doubling also shows on the letters of IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Several die scratches run through the upper ear and the hair just above the ear.  Reverse:  A die scratch loops down from the bottom of the Memorial just to the left of the right post and then curves back up to the bottom of the Memorial above the right side of the T in CENT.

1960 1¢ Pr WDDO-003         "Best Of" Variety

Description:  This variety is at least a Large Date hubbed over a Large Date hubbed over a Small Date.  A spread to the east shows on the letters of LIBERTY.  A spread towards the center along with some extra thickness shows on the letters of IGWT.  Four distinct notches show on the lower R of TRUST indicating that this is actually a quadrupled die, most likely a 3rd Large Date hubbing.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A large die dent can be found south of the back of the mouth.  A short die gouge runs WSW from the rim above the R in TRUST.  Reverse:  A short, strong vertical die die gouge can be found inside the center right side of the C in CENT.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE at the top of the 4th Memorial bay.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE about 1/3 of the way down from the top of the 5th Memorial bay.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Large Date.  Numerous curving die scratches can be found to the right of the upper vest and bowtie.  Numerous curving die scratches can be found to the right of the nose and eye.  Obverse Stage B:  A die chip can be found in the upper nine in the date.  Reverse Stage A:  Die scratches curve NNE from the upper letters in PLURIBUS.  A die chip can be found on the upper E in CENT.  Reverse Stage B:  The Stage A die scratches are weak but still visible.

1960 1¢ Pr WDDO-008         "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A very nice Class II spread towards the center shows on the letters of IGWT, the date, slightly on the letters of LIBERTY, and the hair at the top of the head.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Small Date.  A strong vertical indentation runs through the nose and the lower nostril.  Obverse Stage B:  Same as Stage A.  Reverse Stage A:  The reverse of this variety is also a doubled die that is listed as WDDR-010 and also as CONECA 8-R-II.  It shows a Class II spread towards the center on the letters of USA, ONE CENT, EPU, and the left side of the Memorial.  A Class I CCW spread also shows on all design elements around the rim.  Reverse Stage B:  A new reverse die was paired with the obverse doubled die.  The new reverse is not a doubled die.

Description:  A strong CW spread shows on the letters of IN, the G of GOD, and the first T of TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Large Date.  Numerous die scratches run from SW to NE through the letters of LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE to the right of the bottom of the O in GOD.  Two parallel die scratches run NNE from the upper nose.  A short die scratch runs NNW from the top of the bowtie.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse.  Reverse:  Several die scratches run from SW to NE through the US of PLURIBUS and above the right end of the Memorial roof.  A die gouge can be found inside the bottom of the 1st A in AMERICA.  A short, vertical die gouge can be found inside the upper E in AMERICA.  A die gouge can be found to the left of the lower C in CENT.

Description:  A strong Class II spread towards the center shows on the right Memorial base, the right cornice, and the right side of the roof.  A strong spread also shows on the letters of ONE CENT.  A lesser spread towards the center also shows on the letters of USA, the left base, the left cornice, the left side of the roof, and the designer’s initials.  Tripling can be seen on some of the letters, especially the CA in AMERICA.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short die gouge can be found on the bottom front of the bust.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs SSW to NNE near the center of the 1st Memorial bay.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None noted.  Reverse:  A short vertical die gouge can be found on the upper right cornice.  A small die gouge can be found between the E and N of CENT.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the center of the T in CENT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs SW/NE through the six in the date.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse.  A die crack runs north from the top of the ear to the rim passing by the D in GOD.  Reverse:  Die scratches run SW/NE through the ED in UNITED.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the reverse.
