upper opening of the 5 in the date and inside the opening of the mint mark. Reverse: Stage A: A NNW-SSE oriented die scratch shows inside
the opening of the U in UNITED. A die scratch runs mostly east from the middle
right edge of the left wheat stalk, NW of the U in UNITED. Two, NW-SE oriented
die scratches run through and SW of the second T in STATES. Faded die scratches
run mostly NW-SE between the lower letters of AMERICA and the right wheat stem.
An E-W die scratch runs between the right and left wheat stalks. Stage B: The

All other Stage A die markers are either extremely weak or worn away. A “C”
shaped die crack curves north into the field from the upper E in ONE.

Die Markers:Obverse: Strong die scratches run from the upper hair, north into the rim around the OD
in GOD. Two wavering die scratches run mostly south from the N in ONE and the G

lower U in TRUST. A series of strong die gouges and a N-S oriented die crack
show around the VDB initials.
Reverse: A light die crack runs to the rim from the left wheat stalk at approximately
9:00. A light die scratch runs north between the N and I in UNITED from the
upper left corner of the F in OF. A die scratch runs directly north through the
upper right edge of the second A in AMERICA to between the T and A in STATES. A
die gouge shows on the central margin of the upper crossbar of the E in STATES.

Reverse:
A die clash line runs from the upper right
arm of the N in CENT into the lower left edge of the E in ONE. WSW-ENE oriented
die scratches run between the N and T in CENT as well as many other areas of
the central reverse. Numerous, mostly E-W oriented die scratches show around
