Description: D/D Tilted

Die Markers: Obverse:  Stage A: Two, N-S oriented die scratches show at the rim below the L in LIBERTY. A faded, E-W die gouge shows between the O and D in GOD. A die gouge shows at the rim NE of the U in TRUST. Stage B: All Stage A die markers are at least weakly visible. Die chips show inside the upper curve of the 9 in the date, inside the upper opening of the 5 in the date and inside the opening of the mint mark.  Reverse:  Stage A: A NNW-SSE oriented die scratch shows inside the opening of the U in UNITED. A die scratch runs mostly east from the middle right edge of the left wheat stalk, NW of the U in UNITED. Two, NW-SE oriented die scratches run through and SW of the second T in STATES. Faded die scratches run mostly NW-SE between the lower letters of AMERICA and the right wheat stem. An E-W die scratch runs between the right and left wheat stalks.  Stage B: The NW-SE oriented die scratches through the second T in STATES are still visible. All other Stage A die markers are either extremely weak or worn away. A “C” shaped die crack curves north into the field from the upper E in ONE.

Description: D/D Tilted

Die Markers: Obverse: Strong die scratches run from the upper hair, north into the rim around the OD in GOD. Two wavering die scratches run mostly south from the N in ONE and the G in GOD. A long die scratch runs NNE from the front of the eyebrow into the lower U in TRUST. A series of strong die gouges and a N-S oriented die crack show around the VDB initials. Reverse: A light die crack runs to the rim from the left wheat stalk at approximately 9:00. A light die scratch runs north between the N and I in UNITED from the upper left corner of the F in OF. A die scratch runs directly north through the upper right edge of the second A in AMERICA to between the T and A in STATES. A die gouge shows on the central margin of the upper crossbar of the E in STATES. A large die chip shows on the lower right wheat stalk, ESE of the last S in STATES.

Die Markers: Obverse: Stage A:  NW to SE die scratches under chin and in front of Lincoln’s face.  Small die gouge (dot) under BE in LIBERTY.  East to West die scratch from E in WE to first T in TRUST.  Die scratch running from upper N in IN to South of GO in GOD. Stage B:  Circulated coin examined.  Most Stage A markers not visible or worn away.  Die scratch between lower R and U in TRUST.  Light die scratch in the hair below WE.  Light NNE/SSW die scratches under the earlobe.  Reverse:  Stage A:  Die gouge (dot) far south of R in AMERICA.  Die clash through N in CENT.  Die crack through lower T in CENT.  Die scratch running NNW right of upper T in CENT.  Stage B:  Circulated coin examined.  Most Stage A markers still visible.  Die scratch running northwest from the top of the second T in STATES.  Die scratch running northeast toward the O in OF from the left wheat.  Die scratches run NW to SE through and under CA in AMERICA.

Description: D/D Tilted

Die Markers: Obverse: A light die scratch runs north from the right side of the first 1 in the date.  Roughly, N-S oriented die scratches run in front of Lincoln’s face.  Die gouges show in the fields to the far north and south of B in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs north through upper and lower openings of the B in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs along the rim between the D in GOD and the W in WE.  A light, NE/SW die crack shows in the hair under the W in WE.  A small die gouge (dot) shows between the buttonholes on Lincoln’s jacket.  Reverse: Heavy die chips show on the lower T in CENT.  A die scratch runs north to south, just right of the vertical bar of the T in CENT.  A die chip shows on the upper left corner of the E in ONE.  A die scratch runs SE from the lower right edge of the O in OF.  A die scratch runs SE from the lower right arm of the first A in AMERICA.

Die Markers: Obverse: A die gouge (dot) shows below the R in LIBERTY. A faded, E-W oriented die scratch shows between the OD in GOD. A die scratch runs from the rim at approximately 10:00, south of the I in IN. Reverse: WNW-ESE die scratches emanate from the upper first S in STATES. A SW-NE oriented die scratch connects the E and last S in STATES. Light, crossing die scratches show below the last A in AMERICA.

Description: D/D Tilted

Die Markers: Obverse: Light, SW-NE oriented die scratches run through the mint mark. Die scratches run in multiple directions between the date and chin. A long die crack runs east from the V in VDB and across the lower bust. Light, mostly E-W oriented concentric die scratches show on the lower jacket and shoulder fold. Areas of die abrasion show inside the lower opening of the ear and in front of the upper ear. Reverse: Mostly E-W die scratches run through and below the letters of PLURIBUS. Parallel, NW-SE oriented die scratches run through and below the letters of UNUM. Numerous, E-W oriented die scratches run through most of the letters of CENT. A strong die scratch connects the I in UNITED with the lower C in CENT. Numerous die scratches show below OF and the AM in AMERICA. A strong die clash line runs through the C in AMERICA.

Description: D/D Tilted

Die Markers: Obverse: A faded N-S oriented die scratch runs between the lower nose and upper chin, directly in front of Lincoln’s mouth. A die crack runs along the truncation of the bust before turning sharply NW onto the back of the bust left of the VDB initials. A N-S oriented die crack shows on the lower front of Lincoln’s jacket. Reverse: Strong die chips show on the lower T in CENT and a die crack shows in the field right of the lower T in CENT.

1951-D 1¢ WRPM-088

Description: D/D Tilted

Die Markers: Obverse: Parallel die scratches run mostly N-S in front of the tip of the nose. Parallel N-S oriented die scratches run in front of the forehead and front hair curl. A light die clash remnant shows in front of the throat. Light concentric die scratches show above the ERTY in LIBERTY. Reverse: A die clash line runs from the upper right arm of the N in CENT into the lower left edge of the E in ONE. WSW-ENE oriented die scratches run between the N and T in CENT as well as many other areas of the central reverse. Numerous, mostly E-W oriented die scratches show around OF. E-W oriented die scratches and a die clash line show inside the opening of the C in AMERICA.

Die Markers: Obverse: A short die crack runs from the lower tail of the 9 in the date. A die gouge (dot) shows in the field to the east of the lower mint mark. Two sets of parallel die scratches show below and right of the chin. A NW-SE oriented die scratch parallels the bridge of the nose. A long die scratch runs NE from the upper left edge of the T in LIBERTY into the back of the hair. Reverse: Concentric die scratches run through the lower O in ONE. NW-SE oriented concentric die scratches run between the upper T in CENT and the lower E in ONE. N-S oriented die scratches show between the upper N in UNITED and the lower C in CENT.

Die Markers: Obverse: A die gouge runs west from the upper 9 in the date. A small die gouge (dot) shows on the lower shoulder fold. A weak die gouge or scratch shows at the rim between the G in GOD and the W in WE. Reverse: Three, WSW-ENE oriented die scratches show to the left of the upper C in CENT. Two, parallel die scratches run roughly N-S right of the E in ONE. The previously mentioned die scratches are overlaid by numerous SE-NE oriented die scratches in the field right of the E in ONE. A NW-SE oriented die scratch runs from the right underside of the horizontal crossbar of the T in CENT.

Die Markers: Obverse: A light die scratch runs east from the rim between the G in GOD and the W in WE. A light die crack runs WNW-ESE above the VDB initials. A second die crack, running well north of the first one, shows on the lower contour of the shoulder fold. Two, light mostly N-S oriented die cracks show on the first shoulder fold at approximately 5:30. Reverse: A NW-SE oriented die scratch shows between the rim and the left wheat tip. A small die gouge (dot) shows to the right of the lower I in PLURIBUS. A worn die gouge (dot) shows below the left vertical bar of the N in UNITED. A die crack runs to the rim from the right wheat stalk east of the last A in AMERICA.

A long die crack runs north onto the back of the bust left of the VDB initials. Reverse: A NW-SE oriented die gouge shows to the right of the upper left wheat tip. Die cracks and a die chip show on the upper E in ONE. Die chips show on the right edge of the vertical and horizontal crossbars of the T in CENT. Die chips show on the left wheat stalk left and NW of the U in UNITED. A die crack shows on the outer right wheat stalk right of the last S in STATES.

Die Markers: Obverse: An area of the neck has been abraded flat by die polishing. Similar abraded areas show inside the second shoulder fold and on Lincoln’s temple area. A SSW-NNE oriented die scratch runs from the upper chin to the bottom of the nose. Numerous light die scratches run north from the bridge of the nose and forehead. A NW-SE oriented die scratch connects the bridge of the nose with the front of the eyebrow. A light die crack arcs north onto the head from the back of the central eyebrow.  Reverse: A long die scratch runs NW from the last S in STATES toward the T in CENT. A NNW-SSE oriented die scratch connects the lower first T in STATES with the I in AMERICA. A NNW-SSE die scratch shows inside the opening of the C in AMERICA. A N-S die scratch connects the lower last S in STATES with the right wheat stalk.

Description: D/D Tilted

Die Markers: Obverse: This coin exhibits a Class V doubled die obverse with notching visible on the SE corners of the motto and a possible doubled eyelid.  This is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1951-D 1¢ WDDO-011. A series of light die scratches run SE from the bowtie along the font of the lower bust, left of the 1 in the date. A small “hook-like” gouge runs north from the top of the 9 in the date. A die scratch runs SE from the mouth. Whisker-like die scratches run generally SE from beneath the tip of the nose. A strong, mostly E-W oriented die scratch runs between the S and T in TRUST. A long, SW-NE oriented die scratch parallels the back of the bust below the TY in LIBERTY. Numerous, NW-SE oriented die scratches run through the BERTY in LIBERTY. Reverse: E-W die scratches run through and below PLURIBUS. Numerous, mostly E-W oriented die scratches show in the field to the NE of the C in CENT. A long die scratch runs ENE from the lower left wheat stalk, through the letters of OF and the AM in AMERICA before ending in the lower first S of STATES. Overlapping die scratches run in two directions through and above the TES in STATES
