1975 1¢ WDDO-001          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A Class IV spread to the west shows on the 19 of the date and the RTY of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs NE from the lower right 1 to the upper left 9.  A die gouge can be found between the upper L and I of LIBERTY.  A short, vertical die gouge can be found to the left of the lower I of IN.  A die scratch runs SW from the lower back of the head.  Reverse:  A die scratch curving south runs between the upper N and T of CENT.

Comments:  This variety first appeared in the 1984 book The Lincoln Cent Doubled Die (Page 204) and was originally reported by Ed Raser.  In that reference it was listed as 1975 1¢ 2-O-III.



Doubling can be seen on the right side of the 1 and on the top right of the upper left loop of the 9.  The arrow points to a die scratch that serves as one of the key die markers for this variety.



Doubling shows on the right side of the R, T, and Y of LIBERTY.








1975 1¢ WDDO-002

Description:  Strong extra thickness shows on the date and LIBERTY.  On each the spread increases as you move towards the center of the die.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  None significant.

Comments:  The specimen examined had strong mechanical doubling on the left side of the reverse.








1975 1¢ WDDO-003          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A Class IV spread to the east shows on the 19 in the date and the TY of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A light die scratch runs from WSW to ENE below the 9 in the date.  A die scratch runs from SSW to NNE behind the neck.  Reverse:  Several parallel die scratches run from west to east between the 2nd S in STATES and the O in OF.  A die scratch runs NW from the upper right N in CENT.

Comments:  This variety first appeared in the 1984 book The Lincoln Cent Doubled Die (Page 203) and was originally reported by John L. Blair.  In that reference it was listed as 1975 1¢ 1-O-III.














1975 1¢ WDDO-004

Description:  A spread to the north shows on the TY of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A light die scratch runs NNE from the top right of the Y in LIBERTY.  A die gouge touches the upper right L of LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found to the right of the center of the N in UNITED.  A die scratch runs north from the upper right A in STATES to the rim.  Two parallel die scratches run SE from the top of the E in ONE.  A die scratch runs NW from the top left of the T in CENT.  A short, vertical die gouge can be found to the right of the lower T in CENT.  A die gouge can be found between the lower E and N of CENT.

1975 1¢ WDDR-001

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the lower letters of ONE CENT, AMERICA, and the designer’s initials.  Notches show on some of the lower letters in AMERICA.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None noted.  Reverse:  A strong vertical die gouge can be found between the E and R in AMERICA.  A die gouge runs ESE from the rim above the E in STATES.  Two long parallel die scratches run from the bottom of the I in UNITED to the lower left Memorial.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the reverse.
