1988 1¢ WDDO-001

Description:  A nice spread towards the center shows on IGWT and the upper hair details with the spread increasing from left to right.  Slight extra thickness shows on the date and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Two parallel vertical die scratches can be found between IN and GOD.  These die scratches can be seen on both known stages.  A die scratch from the rim at about 8:00 runs NNE into the field.  A die scratch runs NW from the shoulder to the right of the Y in LIBERTY.  Obverse Stage B:  A light die clash mark can be found to the left of the back of the neck.  A die scratch runs NE from the lower front of the vest.  A die scratch runs NE from the center right side of the G in GOD.  Reverse Stage A:  A vertical die scratch extends from the rim below the O in ONE.  Reverse Stage B:  Numerous die scratches run through and above ONE CENT.  A prominent die scratch runs NE from the upper left of the N in ONE.  A prominent die scratch runs ENE from the center bar of the E in ONE.

Description:  A spread towards the center shows on the date, the right side of the bottom of the bust, IGWT, and the upper right hair details.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the second A in AMERICA.

Description:  A close spread towards the center shows on the date, the LIBE of LIBERTY, IGWT, and the upper right hair details.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  Die gouges can be found below the S in PLURIBUS.  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the last Memorial column.  Numerous die scratches running mostly NW/SE can be found throughout the reverse.

1988 1¢ WDDO-004          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  A nice spread towards the center shows on the date and the bottom of the bust.  A lesser spread also shows on the upper hair lines and the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found between the 1 and 9 in the date.  Die gouges can be found to the left of the lower ear.  Die pitting can be found in the field to the right of the forehead and eye.  Reverse:  A strong die scratch extends northwest from the top of the left base of the Memorial.  A die scratch extends northwest from the left roof of the Memorial to the E of UNITED.  A die scratch connects the center right E of ONE to the top of the C of CENT.  Several die scratches run through the lower ERICA of AMERICA.  A die crack runs down the diagonal bar of the N of ONE to the rim.  Two die chips can be found at the top of the N of ONE.

Description:  A close spread towards the center shows on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the lower front of the bust.  Reverse:  A strong die gouge can be found below the second A in AMERICA.

Description:  A strong spread towards the center shows on the date and IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two parallel die scratches run SE from the lower right of the nine in the date.  A die scratch runs ER/W through the lower ear and the cheek.  A strong die scratch runs SE from the bottom of the T in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs ESE from the center right of the first T in TRUST.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse.  Reverse:  None noted.

Description:  A nice spread towards the center shows on the date and IGWT.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  Remnants of a die clash can be found in the third and ninth Memorial bays.  A die scratch connects the top of the E in ONE with the upper left side of the C in CENT.

Description:  A strong spread towards the center shows on the date and IGWT while a weaker spread shows on LIBERTY.  Doubling also shows on the hair on the top front of the head.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs NNW/SSE between the lower W and E of WE.  A die gouge (dot) can be found just below the nose.  Reverse:  None noted.

1988 1¢ WDDO-009        "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A strong Class IV spread to the north shows as a strongly doubled lower ear.  Some doubling also shows to hair details immediately surrounding the ear.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Numerous die scratches run mostly west to east above and below LIBERTY.  Numerous die scratches run in a multitude of directions in the field to the left of the upper head.  A horizontal die scratch can be found below the N of IN.  A die gouge protrudes from the center left side of the G in GOD.  A die scratch runs NE from the lower nose.  Reverse:  EDS.  None significant detected.

Description:  A spread towards the rim shows on the lower letters of USA while extra thickness shows on EPU and the dots.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A very strong die scratch runs NE from the rim to the left of the L in LIBERTY.  A strong die scratch runs SW from the bottom of the second eight in the date.  Numerous other die scratches running mostly SW/NE can be found throughout the obverse.  Reverse:  Three parallel die scratches run SW from the N in UNITED.  A strong die scratch runs WNW/ESE below the statue of Lincoln.

Description:  A spread towards the rim shows on the lower letters of USA while extra thickness shows on USA, EPU, and the dots.  On USA the lower serifs show notching while on EPU most of the extra thickness is on the left letters and dots.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A small die gouge can be found inside the upper loop of the nine.  Two weak die scratches run south under the one in the date.  Reverse:  Short die gouges protrude from the center left and upper left of the A in STATES.
