Description:  A close spread towards the center shows on the date and WE TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None significant.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-D 1¢ WDDR-001.  Very strong extra thickness along with some separation spread towards the center shows on EPU, the dots, both wheat ears, and both wheat stems.  Horizontal die scratches can be found between the upper N and T in CENT.  A small die gouge (dot) can be found above the right side of the D in UNITED.

Description:  A partial extra eyelid can be found above the front of the normal eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A vertical die scratch can be found to the left of the lower back of the head.  A die scratch runs SSW from the bottom of the ear.  A die scratch runs from north to south to the right of the upper ear.  A die scratch runs from NNW to SSE to the right of the forehead and nose.  A die scratch curves NNE from the top of the 9.  A short die scratch runs NE from the right side of the D mint mark.  Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-D 1¢ WDDR-005.

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse is an RPM that is a D/D Tilted (Rotated).  It is listed in the RPM Files as WRPM-089.  Reverse:  A strong die gouge runs west from the top of the P in PLURIBUS.  A die gouge runs from west to east through the center of the L in PLURIBUS.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Numerous die scratches run from SSW to NNE to the left of the back of the head.  A strong die clash mark runs NNW from the top of the bowtie.  Reverse:  Numerous die scratches can be found inside the C in CENT.

Description:  The lower eye is spread to the west.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  The obverse is also an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1946-D 1¢ WRPM-065.  It is a D/D Tilted (Rotated).  Arcing die scratch from the top of the front curl to the left side of the U of TRUST. Die gouge on head. Die gouges above the ear.  Die gouge behind the ear running south.  Die gouge starting to the right of the upper ear running east and ending above the eye.  Die gouge just below the eye running SE.  Die scratch above the Y of LIBERTY running north.  Die gouge on back running south than east to the lapel.  Obverse Stage B:  Two small die gouges on the top of the forehead.  Reverse Stage A:  The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-D 1¢ WWHR-001.  Doubling shows on the lower left wheat stalk and stem.  Die scratch between the upper left wheat tip and the E of E PLURIBUS.  Die scratches running east from the lower left wheat to the upper and lower U of UNITED.  A light die scratch is seen at the inside base of the U of UNITED running south.  Reverse Stage B:  Die chip on right edge of left wheat to the left of the upper U of UNITED.

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on EPU, the dots, and the upper left wheat ear.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Light die scratches run NE from the top right of the T in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A short die gouge protrudes from the lower right of the first S in STATES.  A die scratch runs ENE from the top of the first S in STATES.

1946-D 1¢ WDDR-005         "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 7:00 shows on EPU, the dots, and the upper right wheat ear.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-D 1¢ WDDO-021.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs NNE from the top right of the right wheat ear to the rim.  Two parallel die scratches run ESE from the bottom of the T in CENT to the right wheat ear.  A long die scratch runs ESE from the bottom of the E in AMERICA to the lower right wheat ear.  A die gouge can be found to the left of the O in OF almost touching the left wheat ear.

Comments:  This variety was previously listed as WDDR-018.  The discovery of WWHR-001 left gaping holes in the DDR files for this date.  This variety was reassigned with this new listing number to fill one of those holes.
