1942-S 1¢ WDDO-001          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A Class IV spread to the south shows on the letters of IN GOD, the date, the BERTY of LIBERTY, Lincoln’s eyelid, and the upper part of Lincoln’s earlobe.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse has a strong repunched mint mark (RPM) which is listed as WRPM-002 and as RPM #1 in the CONECA RPM Files.  A die scratch extends SE from the lower right 1st T of TRUST.  A long die scratch extends north from the top of the R in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Two long, parallel die scratches run north to south to the left of the T in CENT.  Two short die scratches run north from the top left T of CENT.  A short, strong die scratch runs from SSE to NNW to the left of the upper C in CENT.

1942-S 1¢ WDDO-002         "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A strong Class IV spread to the SW shows on IGWT, the date, and on Lincoln’s vest.  Tripling shows on the letters of TRUST, especially the lower U.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A long die scratch extends north from the Y of LIBERTY.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  The reverse is a minor doubled die is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1942-S 1¢ WDDR-003.  A die scratch runs south from the bottom left of the O in OF to the top of the left wheat stem.

1942-S 1¢ WDDR-001

Description:  Extra thickness shows on EPU, the dots, and both wheat ears.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse of this variety is an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1942-S 1¢ WRPM-011 (S/S West & S West).  Two die scratches run ESE from the upper right of the E in WE.  A die crack runs along the base of the bust.  Reverse:  None noted.

1942-S 1¢ WDDR-002

Description:  Nice extra thickness shows on EPU, both dots, both wheat ears and stems, OF AMERICA, and the outermost letters of UNITED STATES.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  None noted.  Reverse:  A diagonal die scratch runs through the upper right T in CENT.  Two vertical die scratches run inside the C in CENT.  A vertical die scratch is present to the right of the second A in AMERICA.  Vertical die scratches run from below C in AMERICA to the wheat stem.

Description:  Slight doubling can be seen on the right wheat lines. 

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse die is a strong Class IV doubled die that shows spread to the SW on IGWT, the date, and on Lincoln’s vest.  Tripling shows on the letters of TRUST, especially the lower U. The obverse doubled die is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1942-S 1¢ WDDO-002.  A long die scratch extends north from the Y of LIBERTY.  A die crack runs across the base of the bust.  Reverse:  Several parallel die scratches run south from IC in AMERICA toward the right wheat stem.  A die scratch runs south from the bottom left of the O in OF to the top of the left wheat stem.
