1955-D 1¢ WDDO-001          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A strong Class I CCW spread shows on the 19 of the date, Lincoln’s eye, the lower ear, and the center fold of the vest.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Two parallel die scratches run NW from the tops of the 1 and 9 to Lincoln’s beard.  Short die scratches run NNE from the bottom inside of the 9.  A die scratch runs SW to NE to the left of the top of the head.  Obverse Stage B:  A die crack runs WNW to ESE across the shoulder.  Obverse Stage C:  Earlier stage die scratches are now very weak.  A die crack runs NW and then west from the eyebrow.  Reverse Stage A:  A short die scratch runs SW to NE to the left of the upper C of CENT.  A short die scratch runs SSW to NNE to the left of the lower C of CENT.  A short die scratch runs south from the bottom left of the C in CENT.  Reverse Stage B:  A small die chip can be found on the T of CENT.  Reverse Stage C:  Earlier stage die scratches are no longer visible.  Two small die gouges can be found above the upper right wheat stem.  A small die gouge can be found below the upper right wheat stem.

Description:  Two extra eyelids show to the south.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch shows southeast of the mint mark, running NNE/SSW.  A long die scratch runs NNE from the second 5 in the date.  Vertical die scratches run north from IB in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs SW/NE well under TY in LIBERTY.  Light vertical die scratches are present at the front of the neck.  Reverse:  A heavy die scratch runs NNW/SSE between NT in CENT.  A vertical die scratch runs through the lower right side of E in STATES.
