Description:  A “bar” shows under the L of LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch extends northeast from the top of the 1 in the date.  A small die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  None noted.

1942-D 1¢ WDDO-002          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 1:00 shows on LIBERTY with the date spread slightly towards the center.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Two parallel die scratches run from north to south to the right of the bowtie.  A die clash can be found to the right of the front of the throat and another to the left of the back of the neck.  A die gouge can be found at the rim above the O in GOD.  Reverse:  A small die gouge (dot) can be found inside the upper C in CENT.  A short die gouge extends NNE from the upper right 2nd A in AMERICA.

Description:  Light doubling shows on 42 in the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A group of strong die scratches run roughly ENE/WSW to the right of the bowtie.  Reverse:  None noted.

Description:  Extremely close doubling shows on the underside of the L in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  The obverse is an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1942-D 1¢ WRPM-011 (D/D South).  A die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the O in GOD.  A die scratch runs parallel to the rim between the S and T in TRUST.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE to the right of the throat.  Obverse Stage B:  The Stage A markers are much weaker and the RPM is barely visible.  Reverse Stage A:  A die scratch runs from SW to NE through the bottom of the P to the top of the L in PLURIBUS.  A die scratch runs WSW from the top of the 2nd A in AMERICA.  Reverse Stage B:  A new reverse die was paired with the obverse.  It is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1942-D 1¢ WDDR-006.  Class VI extra thickness shows on the letters of EPU and the dots.  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the left wheat ear and stem.  A die gouge runs from SSW to NNE between the upper D in UNITED and the 1st S in STATES.  Parallel die scratches curve from NNW to SSE through the U in UNITED and the O in OF.  Parallel die scratches run from SW to NE between the lower E in EPU and the left dot.

Description:  Doubling shows on the underside of the L in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse is an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1942-D 1¢ WRPM-008.  Reverse:  A series of die scratches can be found between the C of CENT and the second T of STATES.  A long die scratch can be found between the E and S of STATES.

Description:  Extra thickness shows on EPU, both dots, and both upper wheat ears.  The upper left wheat ear and some letters of EPU also have separation towards the center.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A strong dot is present on the back of the neck northeast from Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A small die gouge (dot) is present to the right of the middle of C in CENT.  A small die gouge (dot) is present just above the diagonal bar of N in ONE, near the right joint.

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on the left wheat ear and stem.  Some Class VI extra thickness shows on EPU and the dots.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse is a minor doubled die variety listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1942-D 1¢ WDDO-006B.  Very close doubling shows on the underside of the L in LIBERTY.  The obverse also has an RPM variety listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1942-D 1¢ WRPM-011 (D/D South).  A die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the O in GOD.  A die scratch runs parallel to the rim between the S and T in TRUST.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE to the right of the throat.  Reverse:  A die gouge runs from SSW to NNE between the upper D in UNITED and the 1st S in STATES.  Parallel die scratches curve from NNW to SSE through the U in UNITED and the O in OF.  Parallel die scratches run from SW to NE between the lower E in EPU and the left dot.

Description:  A Class IV spread to the west shows on the upper O of ONE.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A long die scratch runs NNE from the top of the I in LIBERTY.  Die gouges can be found to the left of the eyebrow and the central back of the forehead.  Reverse:  A short die scratch runs SW from the bottom left of the E in EPU.  A short die scratch runs from SW to NE through the bottom left of the N in UNITED.  Long parallel die scratches run from NNW to SSE through the O of ONE to the top of the E in CENT.  A short die scratch runs NNW from the top of the D in UNITED.
