Die Markers: Obverse: A short die scratch runs WSW from the rim between the R and T in LIBERTY. Short die scratches run from NNE to SSW to the right of the top of the Y in LIBERTY. Reverse: The S mint mark is a “Sans Serif” S. Nearly horizontal die scratches run through the lower CA in AMERICA. A die scratch runs north from the bottom of the inside of the D in DIME. A die scratch runs SSE from the bottom of the mint mark. Die scratches run from SSW to NNE inside the top of the M in DIME. Other die scratches can be found throughout the reverse.
Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A strong die scratch runs north from the top left of the W in WE extending past the right side of the N of IN. Several die scratches run from SW to NE on the nose intersecting several die scratches that run from north to south. Other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse. Obverse Stage B: A nearly horizontal die crack can be found in the hair just to the right of the top of the forehead. Many of the Stage A die scratches are weaker. Reverse Stage A: The S mint mark is a “Trumpet Tail” S. Several die scratches run from north to south below the bottom of the left branch. A die scratch runs from north to south to the right of the top of the torch. A die scratch runs from WSW to ENE below the CA in AMERICA. Other die scratches can be found throughout the reverse. Reverse Stage B: A die gouge can be found at the rim above the left side of the R in AMERICA. Many of the Stage A die scratches are weaker.
