Description:  D/D West

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Light die chip (dot) right of the curve of the 5 in the date.  Obverse Stage B: Die chip abraded away.  Reverse Stage A: Short die scratch SW from the right leg of the R in AMERICA to the upper inside curve of the S in PLURIBUS.  Reverse Stage B: Die break SW from the right leg of the R in AMERICA to the S in PLURIBUS them turning S by W and running along the left side of the S.  Die break SW from the left leg of the last A in AMERICA to the upper right of the M in UNUM.  Secondary mintmark fluted at the top.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Circular lathe marks between the rim and the headdress at 10:00 o’clock. NW/SE die scratch between the lower opening of the 3 in the date. Obverse Stage B: Stage A lathe lines weak but still present. Other Stage A markers abraded away. NW/SE die scratch in front of the bridge of the nose. Reverse Stage A: Short die scratch SW from the left center of the first S in STATES. NW/SE die scratch above center between the TA of STATES. Two short E/W die scratches inside the Bison’s tail below center. Die scratch SE from the upper center of the E in CENTS. Irregular die scratches at and below FIVE. Reverse Stage B: Die scratches inside the tail weak but still present. Other Stage A markers abraded away.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Die scratch NW at the back of the neck where it meets the collar.  Obverse Stage B: Die scratch is weaker.  Reverse Stage A: Die scratch NW by W from the left side of the F in FIVE about one-third down from the top.  E/W die scratches connecting the top of the C in CENT to the E.  E/W die scratches between both openings of the E in CENT.  Die chips on the Buffalo’s back below the U of UNUM.  Die scratches NW from the top of the mound left of the Bison’s front leg.  Reverse Stage B: Stage A scratches are weaker.  Die chips on the back are still present.  Weak secondary mintmark.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Die gouge at the top of the Indian's head at 12:00 o’clock.  Die scratches between the rim and head at 11:30 o’clock (west of the die gouge).  Die scratch runs near the rim between 9:00 and 10:00 o’clock.  Obverse Stage B: Die gouge at the top of the head is very weak.  Other stage A markers abraded away.  Moderate die deterioration.  Reverse Stage A: NNE/SSW die scratch on the buffalo's lower abdomen west of the thigh of the rear outer leg.  NNW/SSE die scratch connecting the I of PLURIBUS to the upper left of the first U in UNUM.  Tail of a secondary mintmark shows to the south of the primary mintmark.  Reverse Stage B: Stage A die scratch in EPU still present. Other stage A markers abraded away. Moderate die deterioration. Tail of secondary mintmark to the south abraded away.
